the face, the day, cake. Most of all – thoughts
It isn’t so often you get to hear a birth date of a person getting matched with the writer and the person being interviewed. That happened once I recall, my hearing about a July 16 which was the rest day of the Tour de France. When a buddy magazine editor-writer of mine was interviewing Miguel Indurain, the both were nicely surprised they shared this birthday time: it wasn’t mentioned if either got a slice of the others’ cake.
For all his dozen Stage wins, ten against the clock in ITTs, the Spanish rider didn’t once get to salute the line first at any leTour race Stage on his birthday. Nor in the Giro d’Italia either. There were Stage wins there, on a birthday too, for Gino Bartali. Hey, everyone wins on their birthday!
Seems though not so many people get a birthday cake presented them on the same as they get the bunch of flowers for winning a race. Looking at the kiss-crosses on the calendar here in front of me suggests July has got more dates for celebrating things than ever. They keep rolling in!
I picked birthdays to comment on today as some months do get to be more expensive than others, and with leTour running at the time I am penning this I wondered what else I may discover about human habit when it comes to dates marked on the calendar.
I’d guess we share a multitudes of ways to note the do-remember times yet the best bit is knowing you got a day right, of course. My Mother often smiled when thanking me for the birthday card opened a bit following Easter. The actual date would come along later, something it took me some ages to correct. And if you know the feeling . .
